Salty Shenanigans is a two-bedroom condo inside the oceanfront Croatan Surf Club resort, with a private walkway over the dune, a heated indoor pool open every month of the year, five hot tubs, a splash pad for the kids, and beach chairs already waiting by the door.

Most of Kill Devil Hills puts a highway between you and the water. This one does not.
Salty Shenanigans sits oceanfront at milepost 7.5 in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, inside the Croatan Surf Club resort. There is no road to cross and no shuttle to catch. You take the elevator down, cross the deck, and the private walkway carries you over the dune to the sand in under a minute. Guests keep writing the same sentence in their reviews, that it is right on the beach and not on the other side of the road.
What makes the week work is everything waiting around that walk. The indoor pool is heated and open all year, which is the difference between a washed-out rainy afternoon and a good one. The oceanfront outdoor pool and the four outdoor hot tubs run heated from mid-April to mid-October, weather permitting, and there is a splash pad sized for small kids who are not ready for the surf yet. The indoor hot tub stays open year round. The fitness center handles the mornings when someone in the group wants to move before the beach chairs come out.
Upstairs the condo is quiet and built for a real vacation rather than a hotel stay. A full kitchen, a coffee station, a washer and dryer so you drive home with clean clothes, Smart TVs with Roku for the kids, and a covered balcony with partial ocean views for the hour after dinner. The beach chairs, umbrella, boogie boards and beach toys are already here, so the car has room for groceries instead of gear.

Salty Shenanigans OBX is the perfect spot to stay in OBX! Everything was exactly as stated in the description. The entire place was spotless, everything was super comfortable and very easy to figure out. Katy was super friendly, great to communicate with and made us feel very at home. Is Salty Shenanigans actually oceanfront?
Yes. Salty Shenanigans sits inside Croatan Surf Club, an oceanfront resort in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. There is no highway to cross. The private walkway runs from the resort grounds straight over the dune to the sand, and the condo has a partial ocean-view balcony.
How far is the beach from the condo?
Under a minute on foot. Guests regularly describe it as less than a one-minute walk. You take the elevator down, cross the resort deck, and you are on the beach.
What pools and hot tubs can guests use?
Guests have access to a heated indoor pool that is open year round, an oceanfront outdoor pool heated seasonally from mid-April to mid-October, an indoor hot tub open year round, four outdoor hot tubs heated on the same seasonal schedule, and a children's splash pad. Seasonal heating depends on weather.
Is this a good rental for families with young children?
Yes. The splash pad, the indoor pool for rainy days, the included beach chairs, umbrella, boogie boards and beach toys, and the short walk to the sand all make this an easy trip with kids. Note that both bedrooms are on the lower level of a two-story layout, so stairs are required.
Are pets allowed at Salty Shenanigans?
Yes, pets are welcome and a pet fee applies. Let us know your dog is coming when you book so we can add the fee to your reservation.
How many guests does the condo sleep?
Six guests across three beds. Bedroom one has a king bed, bedroom two has a king bed, and the living room has a queen sleeper sofa. The maximum occupancy is six.
What is nearby in Kill Devil Hills and the Outer Banks?
Wright Brothers National Memorial is about five minutes away, Jockey's Ridge State Park about ten, Jennette's Pier about ten minutes south, and Nags Head Woods Preserve about five. Kill Devil Grill is roughly eight minutes, Black Pelican Seafood Co. about ten, and a Food Lion grocery is five minutes out. Manteo Waterfront is a twenty-minute drive and Bodie Island Lighthouse about twenty-five.

Two-story layout with stairs
The condo is a two-story unit and both bedrooms are on the lower level. Getting to either bedroom means using the stairs, so it is not a good fit for guests who cannot manage a flight comfortably. The resort itself has three elevators.
Pets are welcome, with a fee
We allow pets and a pet fee applies to the reservation. Tell us at booking so the fee is included up front rather than added later.
One exterior security camera
There is a single exterior security camera at the front entrance. It monitors entry and exit only. There are no cameras anywhere inside the condo.
